“The Rurban Mission develops a cluster of Smart Villages. There is a lot of potential in rural areas of Baleswar which can be taped and boosted for all round development.  Recommendation for Jaleswar and Basta was sent in March last year. However, Jaleswar was considered and included under the scheme. Hopefully, Basta would find a berth in the next phase,” said MP Jena.

Under the project clusters would be developed by provisioning of economic activities, developing skills and local entrepreneurship and providing infrastructure amenities. The State Government has utilized scientific method to select the clusters with due cognizance to rural demography, growth in non-farm workforce, tourism and pilgrimage significance etc, he said.

70 per cent of funding is through convergence of already existing State and Central government schemes, the remaining 30 per cent will be provided as critical-gap funding by both the Centre and the State, using a ratio of 60 and 40.

Syama Prasad Mookerji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) was announced in the Union Budget 2014-15. The Mission aims at development of 300 Rurban clusters in the next five years.
