The Odisha Sociological Society on Sunday organised a national seminar on “Socio-Economic Issues In the Development of Odisha” at the Guide Residential College here.

Minister of Excise and Cooperation Dr Damodar Rout, former Minister and BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra, former Finance Minister Panchanan Kanungo and Utkal Bharat president MA Kharabela Swain participated in a panel discussion.

Swain stated that the major problem of the State is the Government and its head do not have any vision or foresight. The State Government failed to encourage the people of the State to do hard work and increase their income, while on the other hand, it made the people idle by providing rice at Rs 1 per kg.

Bijay Mohapatra blamed the State Government for having failed to develop the State both socially and economically.

Dr Damodar Rout said though the State Government has been giving stress on the poverty alleviation of the State for which it has implemented Rs 1 per kg rice scheme, but it should be reviewed in the context of its negative impact on agriculture and farming.

Panchanan Kanungo suggested for proper utilisation of State’s rich agriculture and human resources.
