The Special Task Force (STF) and the Bhubaneswar and Khordha district police, on the basis of intelligence inputs, conducted a raid on the Simar-Banki road near village Ostapur on Saturday evening against illegal dealing of narcotic drugs, apprehended a drug peddler and seized 1.100 kg of brown sugar.
The street value of the seized contraband is around Rs 1.10 lakh crore.
Besides, the drug, a Bullet motorcycle was seized from the possession of the arrested peddler, who was identified as Suresh Kumar Mohapatra alias Suria of village Podadiha under the Baghamari police station in Khordha district.
The accused could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of the contraband. He was arrested and forwarded to the court of District and Sessions cum Special Judge, Khordha. Further investigation was on.
In the special drive against narcotic drugs continuing from 2020, the STF has seized more than 70 kg of brown sugar or heroin, 202 grams of cocaine and 113 quintals of ganja and 750 grams of opium and arrested more than 170 drug dealers or peddlers, the STF said.
