In order to preserve the legacy of Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra, a memorial would be set in his native place in Bhadrak district, said Culture and Tourism Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi here on Tuesday.

For this, Rs 1.5 crore would be spent. Besides, a statue of the poet would be installed in Bhadrak, Panigrahi said.

The Bhadrak district Collector has been asked to select a suitable site for this. Besides the statue, a stage, a library and a park would also be built at the memorial site.

After the poet’s iconic patriotic song “Bande Utkala Jananini’ was accorded the State anthem status, there is tremendous enthusiasm among the local people. All this would be a fitting tribute to the great poet, said the Minister.

Among others, Bhandaripokhari MLA Prafulla Samal, Chanbali MLA Byomakesh Ray and Culture Secretary Manoranjan Panigrahi were present.
