Rs 1.40L in Jagannath Hundi

Even as the Jagannath Temple here reopened for all devotees on Sunday, the shrine’s management collected a whopping Rs 1,40,837 from the temple Hundi (donations box) towards donations from the visitors on the first day. This was in stark contrast to the collections of only a few hundreds or thousands of rupees so far as the temple was closed or opened for selected categories of visitors.

The administration looks forward to larger collections of donations in the days ahead as more and more devotees are expected to visit the temple. Notably, only 3,100 devotees visited the shrine on the first day of its reopening for all.
