The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday quizzed suspended Railway Protection Force’s (RPF) Bhubaneswar police station Inspector-In-Charge Sanjay Kumar Swain in connection with the attack on passengers and journalists by RPF team led by him on Monday.
Bhubaneswar GRP police station IIC Soubhagya Kumar Swain grilled the RPF IIC for around one and a half hours to know the truth about the unfortunate incident happened in the railway station.
Meanwhile, Human Right Defenders’ Forum has demanded arrest of the RPF IIC for assaulting passengers and mediapersons on Monday.Forum leader and Indian Media Centre national council member Er Debashisha Hota said the passengers were demonstrating at the railway station in a democratic way for severe delay in arrival of a train. To disperse the agitating passengers, the RPF personnel led by the IIC assaulted them, he added.
Hota said the RPF personnel even attacked a local TV reporter and snatched his camera while he was taking video of police brutality.“Swain didn’t spare the one-year-old baby and the journalists who were acting as human rights defenders in this case,” said Hota, adding, “Hence, the IIC need to be arrested and dismissed from his service for hooliganism.”
