The Chit Fund Victims’ Forum, Rourkela on Friday claimed that residents of the steel city have together lost over Rs1,000 crore in the chit fund scam in the State.
“Day-by-day, the number of victims in chit fund is going up in steel city. As per our primary estimate, the deposits made by residents here would be more than Rs1,000 crore and if the whole figure in the district is taken into account the amount would be double of it,” said forums convenor Jayant Das.Das said this at a meeting held under chairmanship of Mansid Edda. Das further alleged that the chit fund rackets were operating under the protective umbrella of both the Central and State Governments.
He lamented that the depositors are yet not assured not of getting their money back. The forum would gherao the State Assembly on June 18 to press for its demands.
