For last two days, the steel city has been sizzling asmercury has soared to 45 degree Celsius. Though there is no Governmentrecord of temperature for Rourkela, but temperature recorded by theRourkela Steel Plant reveals the highest temperature at 44-45 degreeCelsius. Due to scotching sun ray and heat wave, the denizens prefer to stayoff road after 10.00 am. Consequently, the roads of steel city haveworn a deserted look.
During hot summer, power cut in Koelnagar,Shaktinagar, Chhend Colony, NIT Campus, Basanti Nagar, Nayabazar,Civil Township and Bondhamunda areas has multiplied the woes of thedenizens. Jala Chhatras by various organisations in different pointshave become a respite for the commuters. But so far the Rourkela SteelPlant and the Municipal Corporation have not set up any water shade inthe city.
RSP employee D Behera says due to hot summer in the middle of April, they are facing a lot of troubles while returning from ‘A’ Shift andgoing to ‘B’ shift (1.30pm-2.30pm). The situation may be worse in May.
