The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela local centre organised a talk on ‘Standards level the playing field’ on the occasion of the World Standards Day on Tuesday.
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) Design Department DGM NR Chowdhury spoke on the genesis of the day and defined standard as a document that is collectively applied to codes, specifications, recommended practices, classifications, test methods and guides, prepared by a standards developing organization or group and published in accordance with established procedures.
He also elaborated on various types of standards, international standards, attributes of standards, standards organizations, development of standards, benefits of using standards and standards in daily life. The presentation was followed by a brief interactive session on the theme.
