After cadre restructuring approval all over the country, the Rourkela Commissionerate of Central Excise has started functioning at Rourkela since October 15 last.
“With this, long standing demands of western Odisha for a separate Commissionerate headquarters at Rourkela has been fulfilled. The people here will no more be visiting Bhubaneswar for any tax disputes spending lots of money,” said Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Bhubaneswar Zone, Susanta Kumar Panda in a Press conference here.
The Commissionerate office is at present functioning from the division office premises at Nayabazar and will be shifted to a new building shortly after finalisation of the acquisition process of seven acres of land from the Rourkela Steel Plant at Sector-9. The administrative approval and expenditure sanction by the Finance Ministry is expected shortly after which the construction work of office building and staff quarters will commence, Panda said.
“As regards the revenue yield, during 2014-15 fiscal, out of the total target of Rs 2,090 crores, Rs 1,193 crore has been realised till date and balance target will be achieved during the next two months. Similarly, the service tax target of Rs 465 crore will also be achieved in the coming months,” assured Panda.
