In yet another such incident, a 38-year-old man was trampled to death by the same killer tusker in the Nilgiri area on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Bhakta Das of Ayodhya village, who was a PDS dealer of Nilgiri. Sources said the rouge tusker entered into the backyard of Das’ house and attacked him as he came out of the house hearing the pachyderm’s sound at about 10.30 pm.
He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital soon, but he succumbed to his injuries there. Meanwhile, the jumbo was driven out Baleswar forest which reached the Mayurbhanj forests in the wee hours and was reportedly roaming in the Phulajhori reserve forest under Betnoti range.
“The tusker is the same one which had killed a woman earlier on Sunday morning. The animal has been driven out of our range.
It had migrated from Dalma sanctuary via West Bengal. There were three tuskers in a group. While one died, another fled, the third one during its return path was creating horror by killing human beings,” said Nilgiri Ranger laxman Kumar Pradhan.
