The Bhubaneswar district BJP members held a demonstration before State Assembly on Wednesday against hefty power tariff hike by State Government, undeclared power cuts and low voltage. Party members led by Bhubaneswar district president Babu Singh while marching towards Assembly were stopped by police midway. This led to a scuffle in which some BJP activists including women were injured. In last six months, the power traffic has been hiked by 50 paisa per unit. The hike by Government through tOdisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC), which has lost its independence, is totally unacceptable, said Singh, adding that more than 92 lakh electricity consumers are in great difficulty. The concerned Minister had assured in State Assembly that he would write to OERC to reconsider decision. But though six months have passed, why he hasn’t written it, Singh questioned.
