A delegation of Odisha Sanskrutika Sansad, a well-known socio-cultural organisation, led by its general secretary Manoj Dandapat submitted a memorandum to the BMC Commissioner here, demanding to roll back a hike in rent of the Brahmapur Diamond Jubilee Town Hall.
The memorandum said that Ganjam district has a special identity in the cultural map of the State and to preserve this cultural and artistic posterity of the district, there are only two places where such art and culture are being performed or staged such as Arnnapurna Rangamanch in Gosaninuagaon and Ganjam Kalaparishad in the State Bank Road, but both the places are currently in sick mode due to lack of their proper renovation and repair by the local authorities.
The condition of these two historical places became worse as both sustained unprecedented loss during the cyclone Phailin and are waiting for complete renovation. Unfortunately, there is no other place in this heritage town to perform cultural activities.
Neither the Government, nor the local bodies has ever tried to construct a permanent hall with all modern amenities to carry out day to day cultural activities in the Silk City which is quite unfortunate, it added.
The delegation demanded reduction in the daily rent of the town hall from Rs 21,000 to Rs 5,000 for performance of cultural activities by registered cultural bodies. The delegation also submitted a copy of the memorandum to the BMC Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, the Ganjam Collector and the Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs in support of their demand.
