The Athagarh Bikash Parishad has presented a memorandum to the Sub-Collector on Wednesday for immediate completion of haphazard road works along the Khuntuni-Narsinghpur SH-65. The body threatened to take to the streets if the matter is not solved within a week.
It is alleged that the contractor has left the road widening works in halfway after digging about one and a half feet depth and five-feet width on each side for widening the road around six months ago. As it is left without any mark, accident occurs on regular intervals in the area. Recently, a passenger bus overturned near the Ankula petrol pump while trying to save a biker leaving over 50 passengers injured, cited a member of the body.
The Parishad had intimated the PWD and the concerned contractor for its speedy progress in December 9, last year. However, the work has not been progressed yet.
It is alleged that some peoples’ representatives bargain with the contractor for which he is not interested for the work. The concerned department should settle the problems or else cancel the work order of the present contractor, he said.
