Roads waterlogged in Bhubaneswar

Published on:

State capital Bhubaneswar, which broke a 63-year-old record with 195 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, witnessed woes of large numbers of its citizens due to heavy inundation on the second consecutive day of the downpours.

The rains threw normal life out of gear by causing traffic jams due to waterlogging and poor visibility on the main roads. Due to the strong winds, several trees were uprooted affecting vehicular movements.

Pedestrians too faced difficulties as they had to wade through inundated streets and lanes in several low-lying areas. The excess waters also entered into the residences of people in some areas, where the waterlogging problem is perennial.

Some buildings also suffered damages. A portion of the boundary wall of a three-storied apartment at Bairagi Nagar in the Jharpada area collapsed due to waterlogging. The residents of the building have reportedly shifted to other houses in the neighbourhood. The situation might worsen further in the  city as the weather office has predicted more rains for another 24 hours.
