Road in city residential school premises opposed

At a time when the State Government is busy fine-tuning the safety and security of tribal girls staying at residential hostels in the backdrop of students delivering babies in hostels, the Government agencies are all set to re-widen a road near the Tapoban High School here by taking one acre of land of the institute putting the security of girls at risk.

The school is being managed by the SC and ST Department at Khandagiri. In a Press release, social worker Banibrata Tripathy stated that nearly 400 SC and ST students are reading and staying in boys’ and girls’ hostel at the 50-year-old school which houses students from Class VI to Class-X.

“Efforts are on by some Government agencies to re-widen the road in the north side of the residential school by taking one acre land of the institute where the road will be just a few feet away from the girls’ hostel,” said Tripathy.

Justifying that there is no need of extension of the existing road Tripathy said the four lane NH is lying just within 200 metres away behind the school and the re-widen of the road would not only put the security of the girls staying in hostel in a tizzy but also hundreds of age old trees will fall down in the campus for the purpose. The social activist further urged the Government to refrain from such a move for the sake of underprivileged girls.
