A 36-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing a woman on Thursday morning at Ambedkar Basti at Sector-5 area. Police seized a sword from his possession.
Sources said Chatura Naik hacked Bobby Bisoi (38) with a sword because of a past rivalry. Bisoi’s husband was jailed after he raped Naik’s wife Sunita in March last. Bisoi was staying alone with two sons and a daughter and there were quarrels between her and the Naik couple most often.
On Thursday morning at around 9 am, Naik and his wife Sunita had picked up a quarrel with Bisoi, following which in a fit of rage Naik went inside his house and brought a sword and hit Bisoi’s face and left hand with it. Profusely bleeding Bisoi collapsed and died on the spot.
Soon, Naik fled the spot with the sword.
However, Sector-7 police team led by IIC PK Das arrested him from a hideout and seized the sword from a bush where Naik had hidden it. On Friday, Naik will be forwarded to court. Police will also arrest his wife Sunita for provoking him to kill Bisoi, said police sources.
