After Rourkela Jailor Sameer Sahoo was transferred the agitating prisoners of the jail called off their stir on Sunday. They were protesting Sahoo’s unruly attitude. They had held the agitation after two UTPs were beaten black and blue by Sahoo at his chamber. Protesting the incident, all the prisoners staged a hunger strike, demanding stringent action against Sahoo.
Rourkela Sub Collector rushed to the jail on Saturday night and tried to pacify the prisoners, but in vain. As per the order of DIG (Prison), Sambalpur, Nirakar Padhi was deputed to Rourkela to replace Sahoo. “All the prisoners have called off their strike. The situation is normal now,” said Padhi after assuming charge.
