Paving way for railway washing line
At last, the encroachment that stood against the progress in the construction of the proposed railway washing line in the Malgodown area here is over.
The district administration and railway authorities demolished 173 unauthorized houses from Nehrupali on Friday. With this, a total of 288 houses and one sawmill were evicted in three phases during a year.
It may be mentioned here that when the administration took up an eviction drive on May 13, the slum dwellers held protests urging the former to evict the land on which a sawmill was operating illegally.
Accordingly, the administration first evicted the land on which the sawmill was operating on Friday.
Slum dwellers didn’t oppose whent their houses were demolished. A large number police were deployed for the eviction undertaken under the leadership of Rourkela ADM K Sudarshan Chakraborty.
