The hope of the denizens here to get the proposed IIM was boosted up on Wednesday as the IDCO asked the Sundargarh district Collector to submit a report on availability of 200 acres of land and other facilities required for establishment of an IIM.

Various organisations, which have been demanding the proposed international-standard institute at Rourkela, held emergency meetings on Wednesday to start an exercise to apprise the Sundargarh Collector regarding suitable venues. They have also sought appointment from the Chief Minister to apprise him how Rourkela deserves to get the proposed institute once again.

Source said, a delegation of the committee ‘Voice for IIM at Rourkela’ called on the district Collector at the latter’s office on Thursday and apprised him that long patches of land at the abandoned Kuarmunda Dairy Farm and an unused patch near to Rourkela air strip suit best for the proposed institute.

Similarly, the Sachetan Nagarika Manch in a letter to the Collector also apprised about the four suitable locations, including the two suggested by the ‘Voice for IIM at Rourkela.

Though it has not been officially declared, reliable sources said the Collector is all set to name Kuarmunda land in his report.
