The Raghuna-thpali police arrested nine persons, including a former bank branch manager and four women, and forwarded them to court on the charge of fraud.
According to police, between July 14, 2014 and March 13, 2015, former Branch Manager of Federal Bank, Rourkela, Bony Ghose, had sanctioned Rs4.5 crore to different persons against fake gold. When this came to the notice of the present Manager Adarsh J Mundakar, he lodged a complaint.
Basing on the complaint, police arrested Ghose and brokers Binodini Mallick, Sunita Verma, Mahalaxmi Panda, Shanta Minz, Pramod Kumar Mallick, Ram Bhagat Kansali, Subash Kumar Rout and Uttam Prasad Verma and forwarded them to court. Six more brokers involved in these cases are absconding, said police sources.
It was learnt that Binodini Mallick availed loan of over Rs12 lakh.
