The increasing number of dengue patients getting admitted in city hospitals has created panic among denizens here. “From July till date, 20 dengue patients have been identified. Out of them, 10 were from rural areas and three from the adjoining areas of Brahmapur,” said Ganjam CDMO Dr Mrutunjay Mishra.
He said that a confirmed dengue patient and three suspected ones are now undergoing treatment in the MKCG Hospital. The rest of patients have returned home from different Government hospitals after cure.
Sources said the dengue patients who came from rural areas to the MKCG had mostly been affected in their respective workplaces outside the State such as Ahmadabad, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
According to information, one Krushna Pradhan had returned home carrying the virus from his workplace in Mumbai. The three others who are suspected to be affected by dengue are Sanatan Choudhury of the Taluk police circle, Kalia Pradhan of Beguniapada and K Bijay Kumar Patra of Digapahandi. Of them, Sanatan and Kalia are currently undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College Hospital and their blood samples have been sent for examinations.
Significantly, Sanatan was working as a Software Engineer at Hyderabad.
Similarly, Bijaya Kumar is undergoing treatment in a city-based private nursing home.
Doctors have requested the dengue-suspected patients to examine their blood samples in the MKCG Medical College Hospital instead of private nursing homes as outside reports often prove erroneous.
Meanwhile, people of the silk city have expressed resentments over piling of solid wastes and debris on roadsides and water stagnation in BMC drains where mosquitoes breed.
Residents have demanded that the BMC spray anti-mosquito oil in the drains at regular intervals till summer approaches.
