Even as the agitation of the opposition parties is intensifying every passing day against the controversial city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena for his alleged involvement in the suspicious death of engineering student Asutosh Mohanty alias Rishi and a sex scandal video purportedly featuring him, police on Thursday said they have identified Rishi’s girlfriend and would summon her for questioning soon.
Amid the criticism of the BJP and Congress for a slipshod attitude of the police in identifying Rishi’s girlfriend, Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said Rishi’s girlfriend has been identified and would be interrogated soon.
“Anyone involved in the incident will be questioned. The truth will definitely come to the fore,” Khurania asserted.
Notably, Rishi’s mother Pritirani Mohanty had on Tuesday during his deposition before the investigating officer (IO) had revealed the name of her son’s girlfriend.
She had earlier asked the police to bring Rishi’s girlfriend within the purview of their investigation. Worth mentioning that Rishi’s two friends had claimed that the controversial sex video, which has links with his death, was recorded through his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, reiterating its demand for resignation of BMC Mayor Jena and a CBI probe into the death of Rishi and the sex video, the Mahila Congress staged a demonstration in front of the BMC office here on Thursday. While the Congress Bhubaneswar District Committee has been sitting on a dharna in front of the BMC office demanding for the same since last eight days, the Mahila Congress joined the stir.
The party has also decided to gherao all block offices on Friday in demand of the Mayor’s resignation. If the Mayor does not resign even after this, the party would hold a mass rally in Bhubaneswar and gherao the Naveen Niwas, the residence of the Chief Minister, it has been decided further.
Mahila Congress State president Sasmita Behera alleged that though serious charges have been brought against the Mayor, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is trying to protect him.
