In a huge relief for Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, the Commissionerate police gave him clean chit in the cases of engineering student Ashutosh alias Rishi Mohanty’s death and a controversial sex video.
The police in a six-page report submitted to Odisha Human Rights Commission here on Wednesday, made it clear that Jena has no direct or indirect link with the controversial sex video, which had alleged connection in Rishi’s death.
Based on allegation against Jena for his involvement in the Rishi murder case after the controversial sex video tape surfaced in media, the police had sent the mobile phone of Rishi to the Kolkata-based forensic laboratory for examination.
However, the police found no evidence against Jena in the sex video. The police in the report said Rishi died due to excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs.
The report said that Jena had not called on anyone on the day of the incident. Even, he has no link with the drug peddler arrested by police. He only had a conversation with Rishi’s maternal uncle Rajkishore Mallick on telephone after Rishi’s death as he was sharing healthy relation with him.
During investigation into alleged murder case by tracking the mobile phones of Rishi’s girlfriend and friends, the police came to know that they had talked to him a month before his death. The allegations made by them could not be proved during the probe.
Reports had said Rishi spent the night with his roommates having a party at their mess on May 5, 2016. His friends informed the Khandagiri police after he did not wake up from his sleep next morning and rushed him to the Capital Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The preliminary investigation said that excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs was the cause behind the death. However, the case turned critical after a controversial sex video-tape went viral purportedly featuring Jena and a woman. Many claimed that the video was linked to Rishi’s death.
