In order to solve the traffic congestion and provide hassle-free movement to denizens of Baleswar town, a ring road is expected to be constructed in the near future.
With the growing population and no space left for construction of roads, Baleswar MP RK Jena had apprised the Chief Minister about the need of a ring road around the city. The Works Department has now included the project in the State Plan of 2016-17 with a budgetary provision.
“While the project, which once appeared as a dream, will soon become a reality. A budgetary provision has been made in this fiscal year. The project would be executed after a detailed project report is made,” said Jena.
As the town is age-old, the roads are very compressed. Controlling vehicle movement has become a daunting task giving rise to accidents and severe traffic congestion during peak and office hours. With the town growing fast due to various new institutions and establishments, the rod infrastructure is almost same for last 30 years. As the railway lines within the town area are crisscrossed, the movement of vehicles is seriously hindered and time consuming. The situation could become still worse after more and more people from different places commute through the town after establishment of an AIIMS satellite centre and a Government medical college and hospital.
The proposed ring road would be on the outskirt of the town between Nuniajodi and Chandipur along the bank of river Budhabalanga. One end of the ring road would touch the NH and another end would connect the Defence Road.
Further, there is a proposal for two over-bridges, one from ITI Square to Fandi Square and another from Fandi Square to Cinema Square.
“There is an urgent requirement for a ring road as well as over-bridges to overcome the traffic congestion problem. They should be made before the problem becomes further critical,” said Parsuram Pradhan, a citizen of the town.
