In a bid to ease traffic problems in this prominent southern Odisha town, the Brahmapur Development Authority (BDA) has proposed construction of a ring road and a bypass.

The decision was taken at a BDA meeting held here last week.

The proposed 52-km ring road would cover Raghunathpur, Ratanapur, Digapahandi Road, Chikiti Road, Haldiapapadar, National Highway 5, Korapalli, University Road, Golabandh Gate and Raghunathpur.

Similarly, the 13-km bypass would be constructed from Alakapur to Ratanpur while there would be an internal bypass road to connect First Gate and Jagannathpur.

The cost of the projects would be estimated after preparation of the detailed project reports (DPRs), BDA Chairman Kailash Rana said. When these road projects are completed, traffic congestion in the town would ease considerably, he said.

The urban body has also approved construction of three bus stands at Haladiapadar, on the outskirts of the town, Chhatrapur and Gopalpur. It has also decided to construct more than 120 houses under different categories at Bibeka Bihar, he added.
