Even before results are to be formally declared

Though the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) union poll election results are not officially announced yet due to judicial restriction, the Rourkela Ispat Karakhana Karmachari Sangh (RIKKS) affiliated to BMS (Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha) celebrated its thumping victory on Friday evening in its office here. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram was present.

Addressing to the joyous RIKKS members and RSP workers, Oram said a new era in trade union politics had began in the RSP. He said the union which had got only 448 votes in last elections got more than 50 per cent votes this time. With this, it indicates the RSP employees are frustrated with the nasty politics in steel sector. He further said keeping faith on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the workers have voted for the BMS. “For this glorious victory, veteran labour leader

MDN Panikar also deserves credit. The contribution of Panikar in BMS victory is not hidden to anyone,” said the Union Minister. He admitted that during election campaign he was in touch with Panikar over phone. Oram had also been to Panikar’s residence to give thanks.

Panikar said he believes in ‘Satyameb Jayate’ and had done his job. The hypocrites were given a lesson, he said. He further said after winning the first recognition election in 1995, he had demanded to include BMS in NJCS as it is the biggest trade union of the country.

But other unions with different pretexts deferred it. Even he had difference with his own organization INTUC on this issue. That is why his appeal was to elect non-NJCS member trade union. Now no one can stop BMS to be in the ambit of the NJCS, added Panikar.
