Even though 20 days have elapsed after the alleged assault on rights activist Jayant Kumar Parida by Balisahipatna gram panchyat Sarpanch Tapas Sahu and his men at Rajnagar block office in Kendrapada district, no police action has been taken so far.
Based on the complaint lodged by Parida at Rajnagar police station on October 9, Chief Information Commissioner, on September 30, 2013, had directed the Rajanagar BDO to allow the appellant to inspect the files in connection with his complaint and fixed December 22, 2013 for the next hearing.
Accordingly, on October 8, Parida visited the block office to inspect the files. Strategically, BDO and the public information officer remained absent while some VlWs showed him some documents.
During that time, Baliasahipatna Sarpanch along with his associates entered the hall and all of a sudden started beating Parida and threatened to eliminate him. The Sarpanch too asked him, “Who are you to ask for information, who is the commission to give such order,” said Parida. The police have neither registered the case nor have conducted any inquiry into the allegation.
Finding inaction of the police, Parida moved to Kendrapada SP on October 21, 2013. But the SP is yet to take any steps to ensure justice to the victim.
