UAIl cut off as bridge washed away in Kashipur

Incessant rains for last four days due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal caused havoc in Rayagada’s hinterland like Kashipur and Kalyan Singhpur.

A temporary bridge in Maribhatta village under Gorakhpur gram panchayat of Kashipur block was washed away causing disconnection between Kasipur Block and Tikiri where mega industry UAIl, a Birla owned company, is situated.

The passengers of the Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur Hirakhand express train and the Viskhapatnam-Koraput DMU, both passing via Rayagada and hilly terrain of Kalyan Singhpur block, faced sheer difficulties as both the trains were halted at leliguma Railway Station. Rainwater flew over the track near Bhalumaska Railway station.

Severe landslide took place near Keutaguda village which is situated between leliguma and Rauli railway stations. As leliguma is a very small railway station without basic facilities, passengers of DMU and Hirakhand express, especially the children and women, faced utter hardships. They did not find food and water for long.

The flow in the rivers like Bansadhara, Nagabali and Jhanjabati became torrential, but the situation was under control, said sources.
