'Revive rare Khandpada's Dumpha music'

Published on:

Dumpha music had a unique identity in Khandapada. But the music is slowly disappearing from the people’s mind. Khandapada denizens should take steps to revive it, said MP Prasanna Patsani at a programme held here to mark the ninth death anniversary of Odishi Guru Surendranath Jena on Thursday.

The Khandapada-based Gadadhara Dumpha Sangeet Parishad was felicitated with the Surendranath Smruti Samman.

The programme, organised by the Surendranath Jena Trust, was chaired by trustee Pratap Chandra Pradhan.

Dhauli College of Art and Craft Principal Panchanan Samal and Utkal Sambadik Sangh State president Bibhuti Bhushan Kar graced as guests.

Jitendra Kumar Nayak delivered the introductory speech on Guru Surendranath.

Artists of Gadadhara Dumpha Sangeet Parishad presented Dumpha music. A two-day painting exhibition was also held.

Social workers Sushant Kumar Sahu, Swikruti Parida and Pinki Pradhan coordinated the programme.
