Vigilance officials on Saturday arrested Revenue Inspector (RI) Nagendra Nath Panda of Godual under Brahmagiri Tehsil in Puri district for demanding and accepting bribe. Complainant Suresh Swain of Godual village alleged that his father had filed a mutation case at Brahmagiri Tehsildar Office for mutation of land and issuance of patta in his favour.
The Tehsildar entrusted the Godual RI with the task of submitting an enquiry report in this regard. When Swain requested Panda for this, the latter demanded `3,500. Panda had taken `1,000. When Swain again met the RI to know the progress, he demanded rest `2,500.
Finding no alternative, Swain reported the matter to Vigilance. later, a trap was laid and Panda was caught red-handed.
