Retd BMC employees call off strike

Published on:

Retired employees of the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) called off their strike after three days on Friday evening following an assurance from the BMC Commissioner towards fulfilment of their demands.

It may be noted that the superannuated employees had been sitting on a dharana in front of the BMC office here since October 7 placing five demands which include payment of pension benefits at par with that of State Government employees.

Different trade unions and politic parties extended their supports to the retired employees over their demands. Congress leaders like Tumbanath Panda, Bikram Panda and Durga Prasad Panda led by Ganjam DCC President Bhagaban Gantayat met the BMC Commissioner and urged her to fulfill the retired employees’ demands. Retired Employees Association president Manohar Patra was present during the discussion.

The BMC Commissioner assured us to consider our remands and, hence, we called of our strike, informed Patra.
