Retd B'garh Municipality staff threaten stir

Published on:

Expressing resentment over the delay in payment of their gratuity and pension, members of the Bargarh Municipality Retired Employees’ Union have threatened to resort to agitation if the municipality authorities do not sort out their problems in one month’s time.

The members have alleged that the municipality authorities have not kept the written promise it had given to them earlier vis-à-vis timely payment of gratuity, pension and other incentives.

“According to the Government norms, the retired employees should be given gratuity amount at one go but the Bargarh Municipality is disbursing the gratuity in installments. The employees have suffered a lot,” the union alleged.

It further alleged that the municipality has been giving pension three to four years after retirement. Similarly, it has been flouting Government norms of giving minimum pension of Rs 1,275. More than 20 retired employees have been getting monthly pension of Rs 750 since their retirements, it alleged further.

Informing that they have already brought these issues to the notice of Bargarh district administration, SP and Pension Department, the members said they would be forced to take to the street if the issues are not resolved within a month.
