Breaking all the social restrictions and conventional beliefs, a girl from Keonjhar district has turned a pilot of the reputed airlines AirAsia.
Selvi Mishra of Rukunadeipur Sasan under Sadar block of the district has set an example for all the women who believe in their self-confidence and determination and are not only confined to manage the family, kitchen and children.
Selvi, a daughter of Bipin Mishra, an employee in the Indian Navy, had a dream of flying since her childhood which she achieved after long years of struggle.
After completing her graduation (B.Sc) and aviation as her special paper in a college in Mumbai, she joined a two-year training course at the Alfa Tango Flying School in Texas, US.
However, her desire to become a professional pilot suffered a setback as the airline industry went through a severe loss due to global economic slowdown.
Selvi waited for five long years to get appointment and, meanwhile, preferred to join as a faculty in several aviation institutes. Finally, she got an offer from the AirAsia.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Selvi has been allowed to fly international flights along with domestic flights. She has already gained experience by flying to countries, including Kuwait and Dubai.
