Kamala, an elephant calf who was undergoing treatment at the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Veterinary Hospital here for a fractured leg, would be sent to the Nandankanan Zoological Park on Friday.

Dr Niranjan Sahu, who is treating the calf, said that Kamala’s health condition is good and she is fit to be shifted to the zoo.

“Now Kamala’s weight is 124 kg and she can easily move from one place to another without any help,” he said.

The calf will be sent to the zoo following direction from Principal Chief Conservator of Forests JD Sharma.

Kamala was just 10 days’ old when she was rescued from a ditch in Bijaghat forest under Narayanpatna range on August 7 by the Forest personnel and locals, and was brought to OUAT hospital on August 12.
