A newborn baby, who was once sold by his parents and later rescued by the district administrant here died on Friday allegedly due to want of proper care.
Sureswari and her husband of Jhasuguda Municipality’s Puruna Chowkidarpada area had sold their baby to a childless couple of the Buremal area on September 28.
Being informed, the district administration rescued the baby and handed over to the District Child Welfare Committee for safe custody. But later, on the direction of the district Collector, the child was given to Sureswari with Government assistance of `6,000 for maintenance.
Recently, the child developed health complexities and was admitted in the Jharsugua Sadar Hospital. But it died on Friday. Hospital sources said the child died due to want of proper care by parents.
Meanwhile, some sections of people have alleged that the child lost his life due to casual attention of the district administration.
“If the parents were self-sufficient to maintain the child, they could not have sold out their own child to another couple. It was not wise on the part of the district administration in handing over the child to the poor couple and sitting silent,” they pointed out.
