At a time when a dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh over the Mahanadi water is at its peak, it hardly matters to a girl of the Chhatisgarh.

The girl rather decides to stay in Odisha. She was rescued from the Hirakud reservoir and near Maa Padmaseni temple by fishers recently while she was struggling hard to save herself after being swept away in the river current from Chhatisgarh.

“It’s the desire of the almighty. She started her water journey from Maa Chandrahasini in Chhattsigarh that ended at Maa Padmaseni in Odisha,” her saviours said.

As per information, the girl from Chhattisgarh, identified as Sony Yadav (18), went to worship Maa Chandrahasini in her State situated on the bank of the river Mahanadi. But due to imbalance, she fell into the river. But she kept struggling to save herself. Finally, she entered into the Hirakud reservoir after swimming a distance of nearly 80 km in 12 hours time.

And, fishermen busy in fishing in the reservoir spotted the girl and fished her out of the water where Sanyasi Kalo took a lead role. She also narrated the horrific experience of 12 hours. The fishermen also did all including medical treatment available locally to see that she becomes well and recovers from trauma.

When the girl was rescued from the Hirakud reservoir by Kalo and others of Kusmel village of Jharsuguda district, the news came to the notice of the district administration. And, as part of the administrative measures, it was decided to send her back to her relations in Sarangagarh of Chhattisgarh and things were done accordingly.

However, it was found that the girl’s parents are no more and she was staying with her relations. Further, after reaching her village, the girl expressed her desire to come back to the family who not only rescued her but also took every care of her after that.

Sanyasi and other villagers who went with the girl to her villages brought her back to the Kusmel village in Jharsuguda. Finally, Sony is the daughter of the Kusmel village now. Each and every one of the village likes her and is ready to take every care as she has adopted this non-descript village of Odisha as her new home.

Here in Kusmel where Sanyasi lives, his family members are quite jubilant. Sanyasi has three sons and no daughter. “Now God has given me a daughter and we will keep her with love and affection to our best,” said Sanyasi. “She is an angel for us,” he added. His family members are also of the similar opinion and are also quite happy with their new sister.

Many people are also coming forward to extend helping hands to Sanyasi and his new daughter. The story of Sony confirms that humanity still lives among people while love knows no barrier or boundary. The story of Sony and Sanyasi is now example for all others.
