The Nuasahi Mahaveer Social Organisation on Sunday demanded reoperation of the Nayapalli Kalyan Mandap here.
The Mandap was the first Kalyan Mandap of the State, said secretary of the body Milan Kumar Paikaray at a Press meet. Thousands of people depended on the Mandap for marriage and thread ceremonies, he added.
Notably, the booking of the Mandap has been stopped as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to build its head office at the place by demolishing the Mandap.
Protesting the decision, senior citizens and youth and women organisations have held many protest meets and dharnas. They also have sent 500 postcards to the Chief Minister in this regard.
“We have also requested the Chief Secretary, the BMC Commissioner and the BMC Mayor for reoperation of the Mandap,” Paikaray said.
In spite of several requests, the BMC is going to lay foundation-stone for its head office onAugust 30 or 31, he informed. “On that day, we will stage a dharna peacefully,” he added.
Senior citizen Shyamasundar Sahu, Rahasa Bihari Pani, Madhusudan Mohapatra, Ramesh Chandra Mohanty, lalit Mohan Patnaik, Sarat Chandra Nayak, Rabindra Nath Sahu and Chandrashekhar Dalai were present, among others, at the Press meet.
They said, “We have already moved the High Court on the issue. We would welcome the decision of the High Court in coming days.”
