Farmers and dalits from Remuna under the leadership of social worker Deepak Kumar Mallick gheraoed the Idco CMD protesting the noncooperation and false commitment by the officers and the administration on Thursday.
In December, 2011 the Idco had notified to acquire around 1,100 acre of land near the Somnathpur industrial area in Remuna block of Baleswar district, but no action has been taken and no progress for land acquisition was done by the district administration and the Idco officials.
The farmers and poor dalits are not able to farm or sell the land. The delegates met the District Collector and the ADM last month. They were assured to resolve the issue within 10 days. But their demands are yet to be fulfilled.
As the farmers were not allowed by the officers to meet the CMD they geraoed the CMD and the CGM (land). They also submitted a memorandum with ultimatum up to September 25 to resolve the issue otherwise they would go for indefinite hunger strike in front of the Idco.
Ranjan Nayak, Siba Prasad Dash, Ramani Ranjan Sial, Rabi Nanda, Ganesh Majhi, Gajendra Mallik and Jadunath Mallik were present, among others.
