Remand ends; Dipti to be produced in court today

The five-day remand of security guard Dipti Ranjan Pattanayak, lone accused in the broad daylight murder of Bachansudha Pattanayak on September 11 in the city, ended on Sunday. He will be sent to the Jharpada jail again on Monday.

The police had requested the Bhubaneswar SDJM court on Tuesday to take the accused on remand to get more information from him about the murder of the managing director of Madhukan Finance. After getting permission from the court to take the security guard on remand, the police had taken the guard for quizzing on Wednesday.

The Commissionerate police had taken the guard to Mancheswar police station and quizzed about involvement of more persons in the murder, but failed to nab Dipti’s girl friend Nandita who was listed for police interrogation. On the very next day, the police conducted a psychoanalysis test on security guard by an expert Dr Asha Shrivastav of the Central Forensic Science laboratory in New Delhi to examine the mental status of the accused.

“If needed, we can go for DNA test of the blood stained shirt to know whether more persons were involved in the crime or not,” said Commissioner Police Dr RP Sharma.
