Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday urged Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh to disburse the Central share of crop insurance claim of Rs 795,31 crore so that the claims could be released to 11.61 lakh farmers.

In a letter to Singh, Patnaik said more than 21 lakh farmers were covered under the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) during

Kharif  2015. The AIC of India, the implementing agency for the NAIS, approved claims of Rs 1,776.34 crore for Kharif 2015 season for Odisha on October 5, 2016.

In order to help farmers overcome the adverse effect of drought last year, it is essential that their insurance claims are settled at the earliest without any further delay, the CM mentioned.

Out of total approved claim of Rs 1,776.34 crore, the State and the Centre have the equal share of Rs 795.31crore. The State has already sanctioned its share which would be disbursed to farmers as soon the Central share is received.

“Kindly accord approval to the delayed submission of the crop yield data for Kharif 2015 season and provide Central share of Rs 795.31 crore immediately, so that claims could be released to 11.61 lakh eligible farmers,” Patnaik stated.
