Even as hundreds of technical and management course graduates are eagerly waiting for a four-day special recruitment drive from September 17 at the Kalinga Stadium here, the State’s Employment and Technical Education and Training (ET&T) Department is yet to decide whether students not affiliated to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) would be eligible to take part in the campaign.

Although the department was supposed to begin the registration process for the job fair from August 18, it is yet to develop the required software for online registration of eligible candidates.

BPUT Vice-Chancellor Prof JK Satpathy, who heads the committee to oversee the job fair, has reportedly stated that he had discussions in this regard with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which is developing a web portal for registration of participants for the recruitment drive. A problem has arisen in the software regarding submission of registration fee online. The NIC has assured that it will make it error-free in a couple of days.

There has been no decision yet whether private institutes not affiliated to the BPUT would be eligible to participate in the job fair, he has stated, adding that discussions would be held with the departmental Minister about participation of the private institutes not coming under the BPUT.

The process would take some time as ET&T Minister Sanjay Dasburma is undergoing treatment in Mumbai, sources said. Advertisements would be issued in newspapers about the registration dates and its process soon so that students can register their names.

The registration process would continue till September first week to ensure that a maximum number of candidates participate in the job drive, the sources said.

A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the BPUT VC which has representatives from Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) and the Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) as its members to finalise the modalities for the job fair.

The sources said the first two days of the drive would be for BTech, MTech and MCA pass-outs. MBA degree holders would take part on the third day on September 19 while the last day would be reserved placement of pharmacy graduates.

The aspirants would have to pay Rs 100 each online for registration, the sources informed.

About 300 companies are expected to participate in the job fair to recruit their chosen candidates.

A total of 40 stalls would be put up at the Kalinga Stadium to facilitate students’ interface with prospective employers during the proposed fair, the sources added.
