Refinery credit must go to people, says PCC chief

Published on:

Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan on Saturday said the credit of establishment of the Paradip Refinery should go to the people who have lost their houses, land and livelihood and the people of the whole State would lose Rs200 crore together per year.

Harichandan told a Press conference here that the BJD and the BJP are unnecessarily trying to take credit for the refinery project for which the Congress Government had allotted land and expedited construction work during Prime Ministers Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh, respectively.

The credit should go to local people who have already sacrificed land and livelihood and the people of the whole State who would suffer Rs200 crore per year.

While the BJD has claimed that the State Government has provided 3,345 acres of land and sacrificed a lot, the BJP, which is in power at the Centre, said the Central Government has invested Rs35,000 crore in the project and would spend another Rs1 lakh crore in near future for the project.

These claims and assurances are baseless, he said.
