The youth wing of the Indian Red Cross Society-Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) on Monday organised a post-Dussehra immersion cleanliness drive in the Kuakhai river here.
Around 60 Youth Red Cross volunteers, belonging to various colleges, along with Counsellors and staff of the Odisha Red Cross fished out various pollutant objectives, thrown during immersion of idols on Sunday evening, from the water and sand-bed of the river.
“The river water is used for many domestic purposes by the local communities. The cleanliness drive was undertaken to clean the waters,” said the volunteers.
IRCS-OSB Joint Secretary Govinda Chandra Mahunta said the drive was aimed at creating awareness among the locals to keep river water clean. Youth Red Cross Officer Dr Debadutta Satpathy coordinated the programme.
