The State branch of the Indian Red Cross Society organised a cleanliness drive on the occasion of Kartika Purnima at Bindu Sagar here. The objective of the drive was to instill values of environmental safety among the young minds of the Red Cross volunteers and the local inhabitants as well as spreading a message of keeping the rivers and other water bodies clean.
“We observe Kartik Purnima to remember past glory of a rich ancient maritime trade tradition of our State. However, thousands of devotes while sailing symbolic toy-like boats in water bodies at Bindu Sagar, caused much pollution to its water. Since the water is used for many domestic purposes by the local communities, the Youth Red Cross cleaned the pond so as to ensure nobody gets affected by any water-borne disease. More than 100 Youth Red Cross volunteers of Droupadi College of Science and Commerce along with Red Cross Counsellor Manoranjan Mishra and other staff participated,” informed a volunteer. Indian Red Cross Society honorary secretary Dr Mangala Prasad Mohanty said the efforts of the Red Cross will not only inspire the young volunteers, but also create awareness for a clean and safe environment among the public. Dr Sarita Supkar coordinated.
