A record amount of seizure of ganja has been seized in the State this year.
According to an Odisha Police release, more than 1,292 quintals of ganja has been seized till November 30. This is more than double the seizure in any year in last 10 years.Ganja weighing 618 quintals had been seized in 2019, 523 quintals in 2018, 304 quintals in 2017, 428 quintals in 2016 and 198 quintals in 2015.This year, the maximum seizure of 528 quintals was made in Koraput district followed by huge quantities in Malkangiri and Gajapati. Reports said that the Koraput police find shortage of space to store the seized ganja.In view of wide-scale cultivation and trafficking of ganja, police have mounted special drives curb these activities.
