Inaugurating a seminar on the need of an education policy in India in the present context at the Surapratap Smrutipitha here on Sunday, Prof Ananda Deb Mukhopadhyaya, former Vice-Chancellor of Vidya Sagar University and Head of the NAC team for Odisha, proposed recognition of Sreemad Bhagabat Geeta as a national book as it is the only book which depicts the true philosophy of life.

Stressing for a value-based education policy in India, Dr Mukhopadhyaya said each one should have right to education from the primary to higher level of education. He also expressed concern as educational institutions are depending on MPlAD funds and public contributions for their infrastructural development.

Besides, Prof Mukhopadhyaya expressed his displeasure over the poor salary and non-provision of pension for teachers.

Presiding over the seminar, former Union Minister KP Singh Deo said Dr Mukhopadhyaya was his Geology Professor when he was reading at the Jadavpur University in Kolkata. Among others Prof Bijoylaxmi, former Principal of Angul College, senior scribe Pradyumna Prasad Rath and social activist Sukanta Mishra spoke on the occasion.
