The Samata Kranti Dal (SKD) on Monday alleged that the State Government has failed to provide basic needs to the cyclone Hudhud-affected people of eight districts of the State.
Former Union Minister Braja Kishore Tripathy and SKD vice-president Rabi Rath made this allegation at a Press conference here. “Due to negligence of the administration, people of many villages have not got basic requirements. They are yet to get kerosene and food items. The affected are still staying in broken houses,” Tripathy said, informing that a SKD team led by him visited some parts of Hudhud-affected areas in Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
Tripathy slammed both the Union and State Governments for not announcing special relief packages for the affected people. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Andhra Pradesh and provided Rs 1,000 crore to that State. While he forgot about Odisha, our Chief Minister only made an Arial view and thought his duty was over.” he said.
Tripathy also alleged that the State Government assessment report has been fraudulently done. He said that nearly 2.47 lakh houses and crops in 557 hectares of land were damaged due to Hudhud.
He demanded that the State Government take immediate initiatives to rebuild all house affected in the cyclone and provide 100 days’ work to all farmers for sustenance. SKD VP Rabi Rath said the State Government has hoodwinked the affected people by announcing a very low compensation for paddy crops only. “It is disappointing that the Government is yet to think about farmers who had undertaken cultivation of cash crops and lost them,” Rath said.
