Sale of agricultural land through plotted housing scheme without conversion of kisam is rampant here. The Revenue Department in this context has issued a notification directing all the Collectors of the districts to rein in the illegal practices but it has little effect here.
The proceedings included eviction U/S 8 of Orissa land Reforms Act (OlR) Act and also similar action for resumption of land.
There are allegations that some land mafias are doing plot business here illegally over hundreds of acres of agricultural land. They have sold land without due conversion to customers in connivance of the local revenue officials. The Tehsildar who is also handling the charge of Sub-Register here does not properly verify the revenue records.
The local Revenue Inspector and Amins hardly hesitate to provide sketch maps to these mafias drawing plotting plans on the agricultural land. The Tehsildar approves of mutation (transfer of ownership) merely on the basis of the RI report, who connives with the land mafias and submit their reports about the status of the land. In this way, hundreds of acres of fertile land in this locality have been illegally sold to buyers for constructing houses. The local revenue officials and the district administration are aware of it but avoid taking any action.
