'Realise ex-gratia amount from culprits'

A large number of social activists, members of Brahmapur Nagarik Manch (Citizens’ Forum), Sanskarbadi (social reforms outfit) and Indian Media Centre sat on a dharna at Gandhinagar Square here on Saturday and submitted a memorandum, addressed to Governor SC Jamir, demanding stringent action against all those who were responsible for Itishree Pradhan’s death. They also called for realisation of the compensation money from the accused persons.

Veteran BJP leader Rama Chandra Panda said since the repeated pleas went unheard, both by the police and district administration, the Chief Minister has no moral right to continue in power. “Under the BJD rule law and order situation in the State has completely collapsed. Particularly, during the last five years the crime rate has increased manifold,” he said.

“The ex-gratia amount (Rs 10 lakh) belongs to the public and why should the general public pay for the wrong doings of the administration,” questioned the memorandum, adding, “It should immediately be realised from all those responsible for the death of Itishree, from the school inspector to Chief Minister.” The memorandum also demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
